We all know Durban has golden beaches, great waves and the iconic Moses Mabhida stadium. But, there’s more to the laid-back East Coast city than meets the eye. Here are some facts about Durbs that might surprise you.

Reach for the Sky

You may think that Johannesburg would boast the most impressive skyline in South Africa, but did you know that Durban has the most skyscrapers in the country? A skyscraper, or high-rise building, is any building over 100m tall and Durban has 18 while Johannesburg only has 13.

Something Fishy

If we mentioned a migration to Durban, you’d probably think about the people who flock to the coast for a holiday. But, believe it or not, there’s a bigger migration that happens each year: the sardine run. The sardine run isn’t just a migration… it’s THE migration. Actually, it’s the largest animal migration in the world. As water temperature changes during the year, sardines migrate to chase the perfect conditions, and this takes them past Durban every year.

Yup, you guessed it… Durban was one of the winners.
