Durban has long been seen as the obvious holiday destination if you’re looking for a bit of sun and sand. However, in recent years South Africa’s favourite beach holiday destination has been making more of a name for itself locally and internationally as an ideal place to live.
It looks like South Africa’s summer holiday home has the potential to become a major tourist destination for more than just local holidaymakers.
South Africa’s Most ‘Livable’ City… again!
Durban has been named South Africa’s most livable city for the fourth year in a row. The studies are done every year by the human resources consulting giants Mercer who study the ‘quality of life’ in the world’s cities.
Cities are ranked by how well they do in certain aspects such as housing, economy, recreation, schools/education and natural environment just to name a few.
Durban’s got a lot going for it!
We all know about the long stretches of golden beaches and warm weather all year round but there’s a lot more to Durban.
The locals make the most of the great weather by being outdoors and exercising.
It’s no surprise that two of South Africa’s biggest sporting events, the Comrades Marathon and the Dusi Canoe Marathon, came into being simply from Durbanites’ passion for the active life.
The beachfront promenade is where you’ll find the joggers, cyclists, CrossFit members, group aerobics classes, park runners and serious triathletes training for the next big event.
If the fitness and outdoors lifestyle doesn’t do it for you maybe these facts will.
Did you know Durban has the:
– World’s largest bungee swing inside the iconic Moses Mabhida stadium.
– 5th largest aquarium in the world found at Ushaka Marine World.
– Sardine run which is one of the largest migrations in the world.
– Busiest harbour in South Africa.
