“A huge thank you to all of the contributors and participants who took part in the 15th City Lodge Hotels Group Port Elizabeth Golf Day in support of Soroptimist International, a global women’s organisation working in the field of human rights to uplift the status of women and children.

To the hardworking ladies of Soroptimist International, a special thanks from the players for the collection of all the wonderful prizes. And thank you to the last minute contributors, namely Eureka Mills for Stone Ground Flour, Fedics for the vouchers, and William Whitefield of Algoa Toyota for purchasing the auction item donated by Granite Projects!”

Soroptimist International

There are over 86,000 Soroptimist members in more than 124 countries working together to make a difference in the lives of women and girl children. Here is more information on the special work that they do…

Bursaries – for disadvantaged schoolgirls from a cross-section of schools in Port Elizabeth. Girls who show potential in maths and science are supported from Grade 11 to Grade 12. Soroptimist pay for their school fees as well as their other needs.

Education – of former women prisoners to do an early childhood course at the Early Learning Centre.

Assisting the vulnerable and the victims

Khaya Cheshire Care Centre – A Cheshire Home outreach in Walmer Township, which caters for the needs of severely handicapped children and young adults. The club assists the teacher with the educational needs of the children, and arranges a Christmas party with gifts for the children.

Bet Sheekoom – A rehabilitative centre for prostitutes, drug addicts, and women in crisis. Club members participate in group activities with the girls throughout the year. The club assists with items from their wish list.

Thuthuzela Centre – An inter-departmental centre based at the Dora Nginza Hospital to help survivors of rape. The club plans to help refurbish the counseling rooms so that they are more comfortable and victim-friendly, care for the garden and surrounds, ensure enough underwear is available for their needs.

Adventure into Womanhood – The club runs courses to prepare matric girls for the job market.

  • Heart Pregnancy Crisis Centre
  • Khayalethu Youth Home (for former street boys) – supplying them with fruit and vegetables
  • 15GolfDay1Linda’s Little Angels – a crèche/educare centre for children in Motherwell where most of the parents cannot afford to pay school fees.
